Western Businesses Applaud The Blue Dog Energy Principles

Dear Member of Congress:

On behalf of the Western Business Roundtable and its diverse membership, I am writing to thank you and the Congressional Blue Dog Coalition for its leadership in support of a strong domestic energy policy based on the thoughtful development of the nation's full range of energy resources, a philosophy articulated in the Energy Principles the Coalition released earlier this year.

The Roundtable believes strongly that a strong and economically sustainable national energy policy must rest on three basic premises:

  • Responsible domestic energy production from all feasible energy resources and technologies.

  • Robust incentive-based policies to encourage the development/deployment of next generation energy technologies.

  • Greater conservation and increased efficiency.

All three legs of the stool are necessary for any viable long-term energy policy.  Failure to responsibly develop America’s full energy potential will only increase our dependence on foreign energy, drive up energy prices for consumers, destroy good-paying jobs and, fundamentally weaken our ability to assure our economic and energy security.

We are very pleased to see the Blue Dog Coalition’s emphasis on these same key concerns.  And, we look forward to working closely with you on these important policy issues, the outcome of which is so pivotal to the continued vitality of our nation.

Best regards,

Jim Sims
