Energy Production -- Coal Sector Issues

The Roundtable is involved in a large number of issues of importance to the coal sector.   We are avid advocates for a robust fuel portfolio, including a significant role for Western coal resources.

There are a number of challenges facing the sector, not the least of which are:  climate change; attempts to limit access to public lands for purposes of energy exploration and production; energy infrastructure siting and development challenges; the growing number of Western Endangered Species species petitions; efforts to expand regulations (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, etc.) in ways that could negatively impact the sector.

Here's just a few of the areas we have been working in, on behalf of the coal sector, during the 110th Congress:

  • Opposing Efforts to Limit Access to Western Public Lands for Energy Exploration & Development
  • Supporting Domestic Energy Production Initiatives
  • Electric Transmission Policy -- Improving the Western Grid
  • Climate Change
  • Tax Credit for CO2 Capture, Transportation and Sequestration
  • Federal Land Managers Air Quality-Related Values (Workshop) Guidance (FLAG)
  • The Burgeoning Number of Western ESA Species Listing Battles
  • WGA "Wildlife Corridors Initiative"
  • Opposing Expansion of the Clean Water Act's Permit Authority
  • Safe Drinking Water Act Regulations (SBZ Rule, etc.)

Roundtable members can review the whole range of issues facing the sector by going to the Roundtable's members-only Energy, Public Lands and Water Committees Online Headquarters.  All our Committees' Headquarters can be reached  through the "Members" tab of the home page.
